Brief notes of a meeting of the Friends of East Horndon Church held at The Green Man Public House, Ingrave on 01 June 2011.
Conversation started around the much discussed topic of the upkeep of the church grounds. This was stressed at the last meeting but really need Paul on board with a firm commitment to try and support this side of things as it is not our responsibility. This does not seem to be happening. JV mentioned possibility of using sheep/goats to graze graveyard? ACTION:: Paula to speak to Thorndon park rangers over this possibility.
Also discussed Paul's original ideas of weddings etc, but do not know how this is going. ACTION:: Paula to speak to Paul over all these issues?
Contacts of Ronnie Crighton (new church warden for St Nicholas, Ingrave) established his intention to visit site and assess churchyard.
Richard Horghton suggested building stronger links with the West Horndon parish congregation/community as it is ostensibly used by that population. ACTION:: Paula to phone Steve Williams and open up communication. Talk to him about funds needed for electronic door lock and members needed to support the Friends.
Paula to contact Brentwood Gazzette re: possible story on the interesting historical significance of Church (Baby in the wall/Anne Boleyn's heart/Serpent of Herongate/crocodile, wildlife etc) and need for membership to Friends/ funds needed for door lock. Also plug needed for up and coming concert and tea party.
Upkeep of Perimeter fences questioned (possible responsibility of Tyrells/ Peters). Perhaps JW could look into this??
ACTION:: Paula to speak to curator of herongate museum re possible link to All Saints and mutual advertisement.
ACTION:: JW to look into philanthropic societies with possibility of funding for electronic door.
ACTION:: Paula to contact WI and mothers union re support for Friends.
ACTION:: Paula to distribute A4 posters for concert and tea party to West Horndon, Ingrave village shop, Thorndon park and local school.
ACTION:: Paula to contact existing membership with courtesy call and establish contact etc.
Once a half decent membership onboard JW suggested further meeting.
